Damascus
Azem Palace (Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions)
This Palace was erected by the Mayor of Damascus Asaad Pasha al-Azem in 1749 according to the traditions of Damascene architecture. The Palace consists of three parts, the family section, the guest area, and the services and servants part.
In 1954 it became a museum for public traditions in which one can see scenes belonging to Damascene people during many different historical periods. There is a wedding hall, a pilgrimage hall, a café hall in addition to some rooms in which one may find traditional industries such as that of brass, Damascene procar material, and wood coated with mosaic.
